MEMORANDUM for Record

 

SUBJECT:  Convoy Operation Designated Route

 

On 25 June 2007, the following was agreed upon on the limitation and requirements for all oversized and overweight restrictions on vehicles conducting convoy operations on Fort Bragg.

 

The agreement on a designated route restrictions were based on the following factors:

 

  • To protect the safety of soldiers and civilians.

  • Prevent movement of convoy operations during peak hours within the limits of the main post of the installation.

  • Provide the units the opportunity to simulate real time training for wartime operations.

  • Prevent road and structural damage to Ft Bragg.

 

The Installation does not have training area that provides specific areas to conduct convoy operations. In order for Installation units to train and prepare for their wartime mission, it was agreed upon that only units that have been designated to deploy to a theater of wartime operation will be given permission to use the designated training area proposed by Directorate of Public Works (DPW), Range Control, and the Installation Transportation Office (ITO).  

 

The designated route must be adhered to, due to the specified reasons listed above. All units are still required to apply for Convoy Request (DD 1265) and Special Hauling Permit (DD 1266) when conducting convoy operations.  The following is the approved routes when conducting Convoy Operations:

 

(Short Route)

 

McKellers left onto Lamont, Lamont right onto Manchester, Manchester right to old HDRS (heavy drop rigging site):  (Return) HDRS left onto Manchester, Manchester left onto Lamont, Lamont merges into MacRidge, MacRidge right onto Chicken, Chicken right onto Preacher, Preacher right onto Longstreet, and Longstreet left onto McKellers.

 

(Medium Route)

 

Mckellers left onto Lamont, Lamont right onto Manchester, Manchester right to HDRS:  (Return) Lamont merges into MacRidge, MacRidge right onto Chicken, Chicken merge left onto Plank, Plank right onto Plank Road cutoff, Plank Road cutoff right onto Chicken, Chicken left onto Preachers, Preachers right onto Long Street and Longstreet left onto McKellers.

 

(Long Route)

 

McKellers left onto Lamont, Lamont right onto Manchester, Manchester right to HDRS:  (Return) Manchester left onto King, King left onto Plank, Plank left onto Plank Road cutoff, Plank Road cutoff right to Chicken, Chicken left to Preachers, Preachers right onto Longstreet, and Longstreet left onto McKellers.

 

The use of the designated convoy operation area for all oversized and overweight vehicles for non-designated units for deployment must submit a waiver to the Installation Garrison Commander Office.
