  Command Sergeant Major LaMarquis Knowles

Command Sergeant Major Lamarquis Knowles took the position of senior-enlisted advisor of the 82nd Airborne Division in October 2012. 

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and enlisted in the United States Army in September 1983 as a Track  Vehicle Repairman. He completed Initial Entry Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey in November 1983, Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland in April 1984 and Airborne School  at Ft. Benning, Georgia in April 1984. After his first enlistment, he reclassified to an 11B Infantryman in  July 1987. 

CSM Knowles has held a variety of leadership positions throughout his career, ranging from team leader to command sergeant major. 

His previous assignments as Command Sergeant Major include the Joint Readiness Training Center and Ft. Polk at Ft. Polk, Louisiana, Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn. Div. in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and forward deployed to Iraq, Command Sergeant Major at 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and forward deployed to Iraq, and interim Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Bn., 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. 

CSM Knowles has also served as the Operations Sergeant at 2nd Bn., 505th PIR, 3rd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, First Sergeant of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div., First Sergeant of Bravo Co., 2nd Bn., 505th PIR, 3rd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and forward deployed to Afghanistan, Scout Platoon Sergeant of HHC, 3rd Bn., 505th PIR, 3rd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Senior Instructor and Platoon Sergeant at the 4th Ranger Training Bn., Ft. Benning, Georgia,  the S3 Air at HHC, 2nd Bn., 325 AIR, 2nd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and then the Operations NCO at HHC, 2nd Bn., 325 AIR, 2nd BCT, 82nd Abn. Div. while they were forward deployed to Saudi Arabia.

CSM  Knowles’ military and civilian education includes all levels of the Noncommisioned Officer Education System, culminating with the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, class 55. His other military training includes Ranger School, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Master Fitness Trainer, Battle Staff Course, Jungle Warfare School, Basic Instructor Training, Equal Opportunity Management Course, Keystone Leader’s Course, CSM Legal Orientation Course, SGM Force Management Course and Air Movement Operator. He is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Morales Club. CSM Knowles has an Associate of Arts from Central Texas College.

CSM  Knowles’ awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (one oak-leaf cluster), Bronze Star Medal (one oak-leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (three oak-leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two oak-leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (five oak-leaf clusters)  Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (10th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Service Ribbon (Numeral 4) Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and the Pathfinder Badge.
