MG Nicholson and LTG Carter

Maj. Gen. John W. Nicholson, Jr., commander, 82nd Airborne Division, welcomes Commander Land Forces, British Army, Lt. Gen. Sir Nicholas Carter, to 82nd Abn. Div. Headquarters, Feb. 24, 2014. During his visit to Fort Bragg, N.C., Carter met with Division leadership to discuss partnership between the Division and their British counterparts. He also toured several 82nd facilities to gain an understanding of the Division’s capability to conduct a no-notice deployment.


 About the 82nd Airborne


The 82nd Airborne Division is an active airborne infantry division of the United States Army specializing in parachute landing operations.  

82nd Abn. Div.

Based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the 82nd Airborne Division is the primary fighting arm of the XVIII Airborne Corps.  The 82nd Division was constituted in the National Army on 5 August 1917, and was organized on 25 August 1917, at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Since its initial members came from all 48 states, the unit acquired the nickname "All-American", which is the basis for its famed “AA” shoulder patch.

3rd Brigade Combat Team Paratroopers earn their Expert Infantryman Badge
EIB function check

A paratrooper assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, goes through the function check and clearing procedures for the MK-19 Nov. 6 during a portion of testing for his Expert Infantryman Badge. The trooper must complete all checks in a prescribed time in order to get a GO on the weapon.
