Brigadier (UK) Giles Hill
After attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Brigadier Giles Hill was commissioned into the British Army (Parachute Regiment) in 1989. His early service comprised platoon command and battalion staff appointments within all three Regular Parachute Battalions and as an ADC. He has commanded P Company (the Training and Selection Organization for UK Airborne Forces), was Officer Commanding A Company (3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment) and was the Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion The Parachute Regiment.
Staff appointments have been as a Brigade Chief of Staff, Directing Staff at the UK Staff College, Military Assistant to the Deputy Chief of the British Army and Assistant Chief J5 Plans at the UK's Joint Operational HQ responsible for the Middle East and Asian Operational level Planning; this post included six months working for US Central Command in Tampa.
Brigadier Hill attended the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College in 2000/2001 and the Higher Command and Staff Course in 2010. Operational tours have included Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Brigadier Hill's last appointment (June 2011-June 2013) was Commander 16 Air Assault Brigade. 16 Air Assault Brigade is the largest Brigade in the British Army and comprises all British Airborne, Air Assault and Attack Aviation Forces. Its purpose is very high readiness intervention tasks. During this tour he also co-created and commanded the Interim-Combined Joint Expeditionary Force with 11 (French) Parachute Brigade.
Brigadier Hill is the first Deputy Commanding General - Interoperability selected to serve in the 82nd Airborne Division.
