Capt. Patrick A. Touchard Jr. hands the company guidon back to 1st Sgt. Brian Money, during a traditional change of command.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. – A time-honored tradition of the U.S. Army, a change of command ceremony for the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 1st Theater Sustainment Command took place Friday at Wright Field here.

Capt. Walter G. Heuwitt Jr., turned over command to Capt. Patrick A. Touchard Jr., in a ceremony hosted by Lt. Col. David. W. Seed, commander of the 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st TSC.

“The team is extremely fortunate to have you assuming your new leadership role today,” said Seed.

Seed welcomed Touchard into the 1st TSC ranks. He went on to say that Touchard was just the person for the job.

“Patrick you possess the right skill set to continue the tradition within the 1st TSC team,” said Seed. “You are without a question the right leader for the job. As you embark on the privileged journey of commanding Soldiers, I charge you to continue leading our Nation’s most vital asset; and that is the American Soldier.”

Heuwitt, the departing commander, said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my last 15 months in command, because it afforded me an opportunity to fulfill a career long goal of giving back to the Soldiers.”

Heuwitt went on to thank key leaders and Soldiers of the 1st TSC for the roles they play in the organization.

Heuwitt plans to continue serving and molding future officers in the reserve officer training course at Wake Forest University using insights gleaned from a 31-year career.
